So I'll break the answer down to small bites. This week's post will be about tuning forks - my latest favorite approach to sound healing. Among the many things that tuning forks do, spiking nitric oxide is one of the more interesting. Nitric oxide is produced by the body and released in rhythmic waves. As the wave swells, our cells relax. As the wave falls, our cells become more active. This is one example of the "yin and yang" of our natural biology. And what do these waves of nitric oxide do? They increase the flow of blood, enhance our immune system and balance out our nervous system. Plus one more important thing: Nitric oxide flushes out the chemicals of stress.
When we are stressed, our bodies produce hormones which trigger our fight or flight response. One of those hormones is cortisol. While cortisol is necessary for many processes in the body, an excess of cortisol can depress the immune system and, over time, impair memory, as well as decrease thyroid function and lead to an accumulation of abdominal fat.
As you can see, none of these effects are particularly desirable. With the simple use of tuning forks, the cells can be flushed of cortisol. And when we drink lots of water after a sound healing session, we can then help flush all of that out of the body.
